This is essentially an ultra sound for the eye that uses near-infra red light to examine the underlying areas of the eye that cant be seen with normal kit, producing a high resolution 3D scan of the eye. Up till now when we have examined in the eye we only ever see the surface of what we look at; the OCT goes under the surface and uncovers any pathology invisible to traditional methods.
This allows you the opportunity of earlier diagnosis and treatment resulting in better outcomes. It is especially useful in the assessment of patients with Age related Macular Degeneration, Diabetic Maculopathy, early detection of Glaucoma and the management of these diseases. The test is non invasive, quick and entirely painless.
